Delegates from UCT Stats attend the annual conference of the South African Statistical Association in Polokwane
This year‚ four staff members and five postgraduate students from the Department of Statistical Sciences, UCT attended the annual conference of the South African Statistical Association hosted in Polokwane by the University of Limpopo.
UCT was awarded the top two prizes for honours projects and the top three prizes for postgraduate (MSc and PhD) research in the country. During the opening ceremony, Prof Delia North from the University of KwaZulu-Natal said that the UCT stats department was “clearly doing something special.”
Three of our staff members and five of our postgraduate students gave outstanding presentations at the conference. During the closing ceremony, Etienne Pienaar (PhD student, photo on the left), who won the prize for the best postgraduate paper, received an additional award for the best presentation by a young statistician at the conference.
We all left the conference feeling very proud to be affiliated with the UCT stats department!
